Crystal pictures

The name ‘crystal picture’ originates from the clear glass which the photo is baked in. A large amount of lead is added to the glass (not crystal, but ordinary window glass) which makes it lose its green shine and become "clearer". Just like the porcelain pictures, the photo is baked into the enamel, at temperatures of around 600°C. For that reason, crystal pictures are a lot more durable than, for instance, polyester pictures.
